I like comments on a blog. I’ve written about why comments are important. In fact, there are times when the comments provide better content than the post. Some people have an insightful point of view that may go unnoticed if not for comments. And this is why I am no longer using Disqus. This site will use Comment Luv, which is not compatible with Disqus.
Like all things Disqus has both good and bad points. I’ve used it for about six months, with no serious mishaps. It provides a common way to use logins from social media such as Twitter, all but eliminating the need to use other means of spam protection. It’s kinda scary to give that up. But I am. I also want more control over every aspect of my sites. Disquis takes away some of that control with comments.
Every time I visit a site that uses Comment Luv I feel a little twinge of guilt. I should be giving links back to those who comment on my site. Well, now you can get that link-back. Insert a link into the comment back to your latest post. Voilà, you have increased your SEO, even if only a little.
I have also joined the CommentLuv site. From the Comment Luv site: “The CommentLuv search engine will trawl through the 150,000+ CommentLuv enabled blogs across the globe and return only the sites that have given their visitors some love in the last week, ensuring you get the most up to date and accurate results possible.” Give and you shall receive.
If you know nothing about HTML, please use this as a guideline. It will make your link look much better. This is how you make a link:
<a href=”http://www.example.com/post/”>Put your site or post name here</a>
Simply put your site in place of the example, then add it to your comment.
A good way to remember this is don’t try to remember this. Copy it somewhere and keep it handy for all sites that use comment Luv.
And for those who know HTML, please bear with the brothers and sisters who are not interested in coding. This site is targeted to beginners.
Let me know what you think. If you don’t use Comment Luv, why not? If you do, (in the word’s of Dr. Phil) Hows that workin’ for ya?
